Super Visa for 2 Years
Super Visa for 2 Years
New Super Visa came into effect on December 1, 2011 when the government placed a two year moratorium on new parent & grandparent sponsorship to reduce backlog. This visa allows eligible parents and grandparents to enjoy visiting their family in Canada for up to two consecutive years without the need to renew their status. The multiple-entry visa is can be valid for 10 years, allowing for re-entry during this period of time.
To qualify and be eligible, the applicant must:
- be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
- be found admissible to Canada;
- provide a written commitment of financial support from their child or grandchild in Canada who meets a certain economic threshold;
- prove that they have bought Canadian medical insurance coverage for at least one year; and
- Complete an immigration medical examination.
Visa officers will assess the complete application with regard to a number of factors. The purpose of the visit to Canada will be examined, as well as whether parents or grandparents will maintain sufficient ties to their home country. This can be evidenced by showing family ties, finances, and other connections that lie outside of Canada.
