Study Visa & Permit
Foreign students must meet certain requirements when applying for study permits:
- have a valid passport, applicable forms, photos and government processing fees
- present a letter of acceptance from the educational institution after admission
- pay the tuition fees for the course or program of studies
- financially support themselves and any accompanying dependent family members
- cover the transportation cost for themselves and accompanying family members
- have passed the CIC medical examination, if required
- must be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record and not be a risk to the security of Canada
- have received a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (Quebec certificate of acceptance, or CAQ) if they intend to study in Quebec
- it is important that students satisfy the immigration officer of their genuine intentions and their specific purpose of coming to Canada (to learn, to obtain a specific degree etc.)
Exception for Study Permit
- Study permit is not required if the study course or program in Canada is for six months or less. Students must complete the course or program within the period authorized to stay in Canada
